This summer, the Portland Trail Blazers and Damian Lillard are at a crossroads. Despite having Damian Lillard in his peak, the team has not progressed far in the playoffs in recent seasons. If Lillard requested a trade to another team, it would be difficult to criticize him.
The Los Angeles Lakers are a team with whom Damian Lillard may contend for a championship. The Portland Trail Blazers will need a lot of assets if they want to rebuild. While this deal does not include a large amount of future draft choices, it does include some promising young players as well as veterans who may be rerouted to other clubs in the future to acquire additional assets.
Kyle Kuzma and Talon Horton-Tucker are in the same boat: they’re both young players with little playing time on a team with many of attacking alternatives. Kyle Kuzma has previously had strong scoring seasons, so if he rediscovers his scoring touch while keeping his improved defense, he has the potential to develop into a very productive forward with increased playing time. Talen Horton-Tucker is a versatile combo guard who can play either guard position and has showed glimpses of potential. Horton-Tucker, according to one executive, is deserving of a max deal.
Montrezl Harrell, Alex Caruso, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope are all seasoned professionals. Montrezl Harrell’s intensity in rebounding and scoring is widely recognized, and he would be a terrific spark plug scorer off the bench. Alex Caruso is a defensive guard who can spread the floor (40.1 percent from three-point range), but he isn’t a high-volume shooter. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is an excellent 3-and-D wing who can defend 1-3 players on the floor. While these players aren’t expected to be part of Portland’s long-term plans, they can always be moved, and their skills will certainly attract attention. This is a good package for the Trail Blazers, especially with the No. 22 selection.
The Los Angeles Lakers Form a Power Trio
Damian Lillard teaming forces with Anthony Davis and LeBron James would be very beneficial to the Los Angeles Lakers. On the offensive end, Lillard would fit a number of the Lakers’ requirements. He’s a talented scorer who might offer a much-needed perimeter threat. Lillard would be able to relieve part of Anthony Davis’ offensive burden, enabling him to focus on his defensive duties.
A big three of Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, and LeBron James would undoubtedly be enough to win the NBA championship. The Los Angeles Lakers’ offense would gain a fresh edge if Lillard’s ability to create spectacular shots was added. Without LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Phoenix Suns were able to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round. Damian Lillard might be a terrific ballhandler for LeBron James when he needs a break.
Damian Lillard would be a fantastic fit for the Los Angeles Lakers, since he would be able to contend for a title while still being a part of one of the NBA’s most historic teams. He also has a good connection with LeBron James. While we don’t know whether Damian Lillard will leave the Portland Trail Blazers, the Lakers seem to be a nice match if he does.
